What a year it’s been! Despite some pandemic related work issues, I’m still plugging along on various projects. I’m continuing to color Family Tree at Image, where issues 1-6 are currently available. A new book I’m coloring over artist David Hahn should be announced soon and I’ve also recently colored several issues of Hero Code for Jamie Gampbell, that I would imagine will be available soon.

I’m still working on my self-published Ronin and The Shisa manga/comic as well as the documentary about returning home to Okinawa. I’m hoping for both to be finished at the end of September.

My podcast, The Illustrious Gentlemen is still plugging along over at anchor.fm/tigshow and we try to release a new episode every week. I’ve also recorded a few episodes of a new podcast that I’ll start releasing very soon. Stay safe and be nice to one another.

Here is part of a review from Comics The Gathering // “The colors by Ryan Cody have also had an unnerving quality to them at moments that then change to add a domestic feeling to scenes. But in this issue, and like in a lot of comics, it’s the change in scenery that showcases the art and helps to expose some overlooked qualities. When the family gets to the big city, there is a shot of them walking with New York behind them. This shot shows how the art can capture a city landscape as well as a more natural one. And, Cody’s use of more “vibrant” colors shows where he was employing conservative ones to control the mood.”

I’m running a Kickstarter for my dream project right now!

The Long Way Home is the working title of a documentary about going back to the place you call home, after being away for 25 years. It’ll follow me and my best friends as we all return to Okinawa after two and a half decades, and examine how that period of our lives, and that experience defined us, and made us a family. As part of the project, for my comic book fans, I’m also producing a 60-page manga comic called The Ronin and The Shisa. Both are included in one Kickstarter campaign.

I just got back from the Long Beach Comic Con and I wanted to express my sincere thanks to everyone who picked up a copy of Adventure Van from us at the Golden Apple Books booth. Ryan Liebovitz and his family and staff were incredible hosts all weekend and really go out of their way to make their creators feel welcome. I also got to spend some time hanging out Michael McMillian, my writer and the creator of Adventure Van and that’s always fun. Other than him working on sets in Hollywood and me working in my garage, we’re pretty much the same person.
